Atelier gana el premio de Excelencia del festival South By South West en la categoría de diseño de títulos de crédito
La pieza audiovisual Sunstone, dirigida por Aimée Duchamp, directora del proyecto ha recibido el galardón del concurso mundial de referencia en esta categoría.
La escuela barcelonesa Atelier que investiga en el campo del diseño y las artes visuales con un grupo reducido de estudiantes acaba de ver como uno de sus proyectos ha sido galardonado con el premio de Excelencia en el festival South by South West (SXSW) en la edición de Film en la categoría de diseño de títulos de crédito.
Sunstone, es la pieza audiovisual de los títulos de crédito que daban el pistoletazo de salida a la edición 2014 del festival OFFF, dirigida por Aimée Duchamp, creada por los 11 alumnos de la promoción del año 2014 que recibía el nombre de Lorem Ipsum como colectivo artístico , Marc Colomines Nadal como DOP, Natalie Melville y Enric Isern como directores de arte, Simon Smith encargado de la composición musical y co-producida por ALCA FILMS y Atelier. El proyecto está inspirado en el poema Sunstone del escritor mexicano Octavio Paz que gira en torno a los constantes sentimientos de las relaciones humanas, donde se describen concretamente momentos clave en relaciones de amor.
"La satisfacción de que un festival de referencia como SXSW nos haya premiado es como si hubiéramos recibido un Oscar! La noticia de la nominación para nosotros ya era un gran éxito, y veía prácticamente imposible poder ganar con el talento contra el que competíamos. No nos lo creemos! " explica Aimée Duchamp, directora creativa del proyecto y directora de la escuela Atelier.
En la categoría de títulos de crédito de la edición de este año del SXSW se seleccionaba la mejor propuesta de entre 27 proyectos presentados de estudios de primer nivel, creadores de piezas tan reconocidas como los títulos de crédito de grandes producciones americanas como Daredevil, The Avengers: Age of Ultron o Zoolander 2. Ésta última de gran prestigio por su dirección creativa a manos del reputado Kyle Cooper.
Los títulos de crédito que abren y cierran las películas, documentales, cortometrajes o series de televisión donde figuran los nombres de reparto y de los profesionales que las hacen posible, desde las últimas décadas se han convertido en piezas de diseño altamente reconocidas y cualificadas. En este sentido festivales y eventos cuentan con una categoría que premia esta disciplina, a veces desconocida por el gran público pero de gran reputación en el mundo del cine y diseño.
Una nueva forma de aprendizaje
La escuela Atelier nació en 2010 con un concepto de centro de formación único y poco convencional. Un curso anual con un grupo que no excede los 15 alumnos para recuperar los valores educativos centrándose en la importancia del individuo y poner énfasis en la interacción grupal. El curso se centra en las siguientes áreas: Diseño Gráfico, Editorial, Interactivo, Film, Video y Motion Graphics. Para culminar el curso los alumnos presentan el trabajo realizado en una conferencia en el escenario principal del Festival OFFF ante más de 3.000 asistentes.
Atelier: un innovador centro de formación que nace en el año 2010 de la mano de Aimée Duchamp y Hector Ayuso, impulsores del festival OFFF. La escuela investiga en el campo del diseño y las artes visuales. El proyecto de formación se centra en el descubrimiento de alternativas pedagógicas para impulsar la creación post-digital en un entorno de grupo reducido. La promoción de estudiantes que cada año recibe formación en el Atelier tiene un reto importante, la creación del diseño y creatividad de la campaña gráfica del festival OFFF, la publicación de un libro, así como los Open Titlles que deberán presentar ante la audiencia fiel del festival OFFF.
Fue en 1987 cuando se celebró la primera edición de SXSW; Austin no era un lugar de moda y fue gracias a la comunidad extranjera que estudiaba en la Universidad de Texas, que este festival pudo crecer. Hoy en día South by South West es el evento más grande en la capital texana, donde se muestra lo mejor y más nuevo de la tecnología, música y cine. El evento está dividido en tres grandes secciones. SXSW Music, SXSW Interactive y SXSW Film donde se encargan de llevar lo mejor de cada rama en Austin.

Atelier wins the Excellence in Title Design award in the South By South West Festival
The audiovisual piece “Sunstone” directed by Aimée Duchamp also director of Atelier, has received the award of this global reference competition in this category .
The Barcelona school Atelier who continuously research the fields of Design and Visual Arts with a small group of students, just witness how one of their projects has been awarded with the Excellence Award at the South By South West Festival (SXSW) in the Film edition in the Title Design category.
Sunstone is the audiovisual piece that gave the starting shot/signal/ kickoff with its Title Design to the OFFF Festival 2014 edition. Directed by Aimée Duchamp, created by the 11 student of the 2014 generation called Lorem Ipsum as an artistic collective, Marc Colomines Nadas as DOP, Natalie Melville and Enric Isern as Art Directors and Tutors, and Simon Smith who was in charge of the Musical Composition. A project inspired by the Sunstone poem from Mexican writer Octavio Paz that revolves around the constant feelings of human relations, and which specifically describes the key moments of loving relationships.
“The satisfaction of having a renown festival such as SXSW awarding us feels just like winning the Oscar! The news of the nomination was already a great success and we saw the possibility of winning against all that great talent as almost impossible. Now we believe it!“ says Aimée Duchamp, Creative Director of the project and Director of the Atelier school.
In this years Title Design Category of the SXSW the best proposal was selected among 27 projects submitted by first level agencies and design studios, creators of renown movies Title Design for big American productions such as Daredevil, The Avengers: Age of Ultron or Zoolander 2. The last one highly prestigious for its Creative Direction at the hands of renowned Kyle Cooper.
Titles are the ones in charge of the opening and closure of films, documentaries, short films an television series, on which the names of the cast and professionals that make them possible are credited, since the last decades they have become design pieces highly recognised and qualified. In this sense festivals and events now count with a category that awards this discipline, sometimes unknown for the bigger audience, but with great reputation in the world of cinema and design.
A new way of learning
Atelier school was born in 2010 as a teaching center with unique and unconventional concept. An Annual Course composed by a group that doesn’t exceeds 15 students in order to recover the educative values focused in the individual importance and emphasising in group integration. The course targets the following Design fields: Graphic Design, Editorial, Interactive, Film, Video and Motion Graphics. To complete the course the students present their work at a conference on the main stage of the OFFF Festival in front of more than 3,000 attendees.

The educational project focus in the discovery of alternative pedagogics in order to promote post-digital creation in a reduced group environment. The students generation that receives formation in Atelier each year have and important challenge, the design creation and creativity for the OFFF Festival Graphic Campaign, the publishing of a Book, as well as the Open Titles that they should present in front of the OFFF Festival attendees.
In the year 1987 was celebrated the fist edition of the SXSW; Austin wasn’t a renowned place by then and was thanks to the foreign students community that attended the University of Texas, that this festival was able to grow. Nowadays South by South West is one of the major events of the Texan City, where the best and newest in technology, music and film is broadcasted. The event is divided in three main sections: SXSW Music, SXSW Interactive and SXSW Film, responsable of bringing the best of each field to Austin.
